What is Autogas?

It is LPG, Liquefied Petroleum Gas, a natural by-product of the refining process of crude oil no matter what the end product is. Therefore it will be made and wasted if not used as a fuel.

Why use Autogas?
It is cheaper, cleaner and greener. It is half the price of petrol and cost less to produce than petrol or diesel. It burns cleaner in the engine thus increasing the time between oil change intervals. It produces less harmful emissions when burnt and is up to 50% quieter than diesel engines.

How much is Autogas?
It is 38 pence per litre on average therefore under half the price of petrol at around 80 pence per litre. Tax on it has been frozen until at least 2004 and due to present political agenda it is unlikely to increase after that date.

Where can I fill up?

Autogas is now readily available across the country with filling points opening at a rate of one a day. For up to date information go to the members section of this site to apply for a password or get converted by us to be given full access to the most revolutionary way of locating the nearest sites to you or your route by searching by county or road number and getting down to street level mapping.

What happens when I run out?
Cars become dual fuel when converted and can be driven on petrol or Autogas at the flick of a switch, the vehicle will automatically switch back to petrol when the tank is empty.

Is it safe?
Yes, the Autogas is stored in a pressurised tank, which is significantly stronger than a conventional petrol tank and tested to 32 bars of pressure. If a leak occurred in the system there are specially designed solenoid switches that do not allow the gas to flow.

Is the performance of my car affected?
No appreciable difference in the performance of a converted car is normally detectable by the driver in normal driving mode.

Will my m.p.g. remain the same?
On average a 12% reduction of m.p.g. can usually be expected this is due to the lower calorific levels of gas and increased combustibility.
